Scorpion Fish Profile

by Randall Benton
A Scorpion fish (Scorpaena plumieri) lies motionless on a coral head in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. These fish are very difficult to spot as their camouflage is so effective. They lie still, visually blending into the surrounding rocks and feed by sucking smaller fish into their mouths. They also have venomous spines on their dorsal fins for protection.
Location: Windsock Reef/ Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles
