Pair of Hammerheads
by Todd Bretl
Contrary to their intimidating appearance, the hammerheads in the Galapagos were timid and difficult to get close to. I spent maybe 30 minutes behind the boulder in the foreground, holding my breath for almost a minute at a time, in hopes of getting a decent head-on close-up as they passed by. This shot was my best effort, and by the time I looked up from the viewfinder, both sharks were some 25ft away! Here, the leading shark is ~4ft from the dome.
